Finally, the Knicks are able to cure their “cancer” and move on, buying out Stephon Marbury’s   contract and releasing him to the Celtics. While details on how much the buyout cost the Knicks is unclear, one thing is clear; the Knicks probably saved themselves some money (since the once ‘all-star’ never played) and can finally move on without worrying about the next stunt he had planned.

On to the real question: Was this a good idea for the NBA champions? Will ‘Starbury’ help or hinder the C’s in their quest for glory once more? Many people are divided on this issue and only time will tell. Some believe he will act as a cancer on the team, just like he did with the Suns and Knicks. Others believe KG, Pierce, and Allen won’t let that happen and that he will fit right in. How do you feel about this new acquisition?

Eight months have passed since Tiger last played in a golf match – time sure goes by fast.  According to news sources, Tiger tore his ACL while running around the neighborhood, near one of his homes in Orlando, Florida.

Arriving at his first match back (the PGA tour), Tiger still had high expectations, as he was picked as one of the top four performers. Too bad Tiger didn’t live up to those expectations (he struggled to maintain par and was sent home packing), even though he felt as if he played a good game.  I’m sure tiger is just getting warmed up and he will be back on track in no time. After all, he is 2nd to none when it comes to golf.

Speaking of jail time, Michael Vick seems like he will be lucking out and serving his final 2 months of jail time in his very own house. Since the penitentiary in Kansas will soon be full, Vick will be able to move back into his house sometime around May 21st, where he will stay under ‘home confinement’ and be watched over by a parole officer.

The big question now is will the ‘once highest paid’ player in the NFL be able to return to throwing pigskins? Apparently, Vicks contract with the falcons runs up until 2013 with an annual pay of 9 million dollars. The falcons are currently trying to sell his contract to any takers, but so far there don’t seem to be any teams interested, especially with the possible repercussions which may arise from groups like PETA.

After pleading guilty to a DUI back on new year’s eve, Sir Charles Barkley was sentenced to five days in jail near Scottsdale, Arizona. On top of serving time and small fines ($2,000), Charles will also be forced to attend an alcohol treatment program. In addition to preventing a relapse of this incident, Chuck will also be forced to install an ignition interlock device on all of his vehicles, which will not allow the cars to start if alcohol is detected. Hopefully, this NBA all-star will have learned his lesson and get his life back on track, announcing and conducting post-game interviews for us NBA fans.

This year’s dunk contest was just as exciting as last years – if not more. Dwight Howard actually had some competition with former dunk champion Nate Robinson. Both of these two guys had amazing tricks up their sleeves – dunking on a 12 foot rim, double-pump reverse jam, and leaping over the big 7 footer. Both of these guys deserved to win the title for a second time, but KryptoNate hauled in 52% of the total votes, just barely enough to walk-it-out with the ‘W’.

It’s nice to see the dunk contest being brought back to life again, unlike a couple years back, after the Vince Carter/Jason Richardson era. Thanks to Superman Dwight, we can start looking forward to the coming dunk contests and what’s in store for us viewers.

On Tuesday night, the top two teams in the NHL battled each other out in a fight for recognition of being the best team, thus far. Things started out well for the Bruins, as they led the Sharks 2-1 for the first two periods, but things began to turn around when Patrick Marleau scored the equalizer in the beginning of the third period, where two more goals ensued, one of them scored by Sharks captain Joe Thorton.

In Columbus, Ohio, team USA took on Mexico for one of the world cup classification rounds. The U.S. has not lost to Mexico on home turf for over 8 years, and they kept that streak alive as they defeated the Mexicans by a score of 2-0. Both goals were scored by Michael Bradley and both assists came from all-star Landon Donovan. Another notable fact about these two goals is that they both came right before the end of a half, the first one scored during the 45th minute, and the last one in the 89th minute; talk about waiting it out ’til the last minute.

Glad to see that the United States is off to a great start and let’s hope they are more prepared for this year’s world cup (taking place in Africa, 2010) than they were in 2006, where they failed to advance from the preliminaries with a record of 0-2-1.
