Lakers 2009 NBA Champions

The Lakers faced the Orlando Magic in this years NBA championship. The Magic had made some unbelievable comebacks to earn their spot as eastern conference champions, but they did not have what it took to overcome the Lakers, as they fell by a score of 4-1. However, in their defense, the series could have been more interesting and a lot closer had the Magic won game 2 off the last second alley-oop pass to rookie Courtney Lee, and had Dwight Howard made his free-throws/had Jameer Nelson fouled Derek Fisher before he sunk the biggest shot of his career.
With this victory, the Lakers secured their 15th NBA championship trophy (out of their 30 appearances) and trail the Celtics by two for the all-time record. This was also a historic day for Laker’s coach Phil Jackson, as he won his 10th championship (6 with the Bulls, 4 with the Lakers), the most championship wins for any coach in any sport.
With this win, Kobe Bryant was also able to silence critics for finally being able to win a championship without former teammate Shaquille O’Neal. He also won his first Finals MVP award, which he will add to his resume in application for the world’s best basketball player.
Now the Lakers face a new dilemma regarding guard Trevor Ariza and Forward Lamar Odom; which of these star players will they be more interested in re-signing, and which will they consider letting go? They both played vital roles in winning the championship and they will both will be expecting a big raise, something the Lakers may not be able to afford, as they are already way over their salary caps.

I have to hand it to them, the Lakers did great, I would have preferred seeing Dwight carrying around the trophy, but hey, what can I say. Good job Lakers, as for the Magic, they’ll definitely be a competitor for years and years to come.

Yeah, I think the magic will be good for some time now, especially with the latest addition of superstar Vinsanity. The Lakers also made a bold move and picked up Ron Artest, who should help them out as well. Kind of sad to see Ariza go, but at least he left with a ring.

Orlando magic is the best..
July 6th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Yeah… that’s why they lost in the finals 4-1?

Orlando Magic did not have a chance. They played 2 good games and that’s about it.

It would have been nice to see a Cavs – Lakers finals, but it was a great final anyway. Hope Jackson stays one more season and win it again

Kinda crazy Ariza would leave but I guess he’s got his ring so he may as well make the extra bucks. Artest could make them crazy good

Lakers on the downhill slide, good they got it this year. Cavs and Magic will probably own them for years to come.

Kobe Bryant had a lot of criticism off lately. I like him. He is kewl….. But I guess every sports celebrity faces this multiple times in their career. I guess they are used to it by now.

The Lakers were the best team with most the best superstars and they deserved to win the 2009-NBA-champions. Kobe really deserved to be the MVP as he gives good support to the team and a key player for Lakers. The addition of new superstars really works out. Shaquille O’Neal I miss him playing for the team. Good job Lakers keep the spirit.

According to Pau Gasol’s website, Lakers trainer Gary Vitti met with Gasol in Barcelona to check on the progress of Gasol’s injured finger.

Haha Michael you must be hard to please.
I thought the Lakers deserved the Championship.
The Denver Lakers series was intense by the way. My favorite of the playoffs.

The Majic has always been a competitor for the Lakers. It was a great series and Kobe and Fisher did outstanding. The Lakers are the reason I enjoy watching basketball.
September 19th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Congrats to the Lakers. They have a good shot to repeat, but the Cavs have improved their team alot and are gonna give them a good run. Shaq is gonna get a ring for the king.
September 26th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
There is no doubt that the Lakers have a great opportunity to repeat last years success. In fact, Kobe was just vote top clutch player and the great coaching will continue. But looking at Lamar Odom’s decision to marry Khloe Kardashian this coming weekend makes me wonder “what the hell is HE thinking”. I mean damn, he just met her 3 weeks ago. Maybe she is really good at Xs and Os.

October 21st, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Haha, nice comment. Yeah, the same thing that happened to Tony Romo might fall upon Odom!
November 12th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Lakers will always be my best time, they know how to change the game and win.
November 17th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Going to a Lakers game must really be cool. The excitement is tremendous even coming through the TV. Some day I would like to see one in person. Not only do you have the game playing out right in front of you, there are the players, the food, the smells, the sounds, and the famous people.

lakers still be the best, Kobe Bryant looks to be the best always, is fantastic
January 11th, 2010 at 8:30 am
They are still in form so congratz for the championship
January 18th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Alright, just my 2 cents here. The Lakers are good, BUT, they could be great. Kobe is king (no argument here), however, that being said I still feel that there is a disconnect between the players as a whole. If they could work more together and become cohesive they could really amp up the performance of the team and dominate!
February 9th, 2010 at 2:31 am
really cool and interesting about theLakers . hope they can do the best of the best as they can…
February 17th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
The question is….can they do it again?
March 6th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
