Machu Picchu is a 15th century Inca site located in the MachuPicchu district of Peru. Although the Incas spent several years around 1450 building the site, just one century later, they left and abandon the site. Although the site was known locally, global attention to the site did not come until 1911 when an American historian brought it to attention. The site has become known as one of the most familiar icon of the Incan civilization.
Another ancient civilization, Chichen Itza was a large civilization built by the Mayans. In fact, Chicen Itza is considered to be the largest civilzation the Mayans ever built. Chichen Itza is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico; an estimated 1.2 million tourists visit the ruins every year.
